Think of it like the old .38acp vs .38 Super or .38 Special vs the hot .38-44 Outdoorsman (pre .357mag). The .38-44 would chamber in a K frame S&W but would quickly hammer it to bits, it was meant to be used in a .38 N frame.

Conversely, if indeed the 9mm/38 Super ejector is taller; the .45 ACP slide would never clear the top of the ejector.
